One of the biggest questions mankind has always tried to answer is what really caused the dinosaurs to go extinct. Was it because of a large asteroid that hit the Earth with large explosion? Or did this result from a change in the climate? Three young researchers, lead by Columbia University graduate Stephen L. Brusatte, decided to try and find out the real truth. In order to do that, the group had to study an aspect of this matter that other historians haven't touched upon yet. So, instead of focusing on the raw counts of the different species of dinosaurs over time, the researchers focused on the changes in the anatomies of the dinosaurs. Did their plan work?
Alas, this approach didn't exactly work out the way the group wanted it work. The results drawn from this study were mixed and mostly inconclusive. The study implied that while large herbivorous dinosaurs may have been in decline, smaller herbivores and carnivores were still going steady and possibly even increasing in diversity. However, these results were uniform on the different continents. It would have been have more helpful for these young scientist if they had some fossil samples of dinosaurs who lived around that time. Nonetheless, the team made a great effort and gave us some insight on how the dinosaurs really died?
