On Monday and Tuesday, I did a science lab with my science class called the Digestion Lab. The goal of this lab was to teach my fellow classmates and I about how our stomach digests our food. What we used in this experiment were four test tubes, twelve cubes of egg white, pepsin, water, and hydrochloric acid. Basically what we did was we put three egg white cubes in each of the four test tubes and and poured in either some water, pepsin, hydrochloric acid, or a combination of two of them. Then we observed the cubes in the beakers for two days. What we were looking for was which material(s) were the best for disintegrating. That turned out to be the combination of the hydrochloric acid and pepsin. What this lab taught was that stomach basically used hydrochloric acid and pepsin to chemically break down food.
